Bulk Billed Pregnancy Reassurance Scans in Melbourne

Midwife reassurance and bonding scans in South Melbourne

Looking for a pregnancy reassurance scan in Melbourne?

At Albert Road GP, we offer fully bulk billed reassurance scans with experienced midwives for pregnant women wanting extra peace of mind between routine pregnancy appointments.

These gentle, supportive appointments are designed to help you feel more reassured during pregnancy, especially during those long waits between scans, GP visits, hospital appointments or obstetric reviews.

No referral is needed.

What is a pregnancy reassurance scan?

A reassurance scan is a non-diagnostic pregnancy scan performed during a midwife appointment to provide reassurance and connection during pregnancy.

Many women book a reassurance scan in early pregnancy while waiting for their dating scan, NIPT results, morphology scan or next antenatal appointment.

These appointments are commonly booked:

  • Around 8 to 12 weeks pregnant
  • Between routine pregnancy scans
  • After previous pregnancy loss or infertility
  • During periods of increased pregnancy anxiety
  • For extra reassurance between hospital appointments
  • For a bonding experience with baby

Our midwives understand that pregnancy can feel overwhelming at times. Sometimes hearing your baby’s heartbeat or seeing baby move can provide comfort and reassurance during uncertain moments.

Bulk billed reassurance scans in Melbourne

Our reassurance scans are fully bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.

Appointments include:

  • A 45 minute check-in with a midwife
  • Time to ask general pregnancy questions
  • A reassurance or bonding scan
  • Supportive pregnancy care in a calm environment

We aim to create a warm, unrushed experience where you feel listened to, supported and cared for.

Important information about reassurance scans

Reassurance scans are not medical ultrasounds and do not replace diagnostic pregnancy scans performed by a sonographer, obstetrician or hospital imaging provider.

No formal measurements, diagnosis or ultrasound report are provided.

These scans do not replace:

  • Dating scans
  • NT scans
  • Morphology scans
  • Growth scans
  • Hospital antenatal appointments
  • CTGs (cardiotocographs)
  • Medical review or emergency assessment

If your midwife has any concerns during the appointment, you may be advised to contact your GP, maternity hospital or obstetric care provider for further assessment.

When not to book a reassurance scan

Please do not book a reassurance scan if you are experiencing symptoms that may require urgent medical care.

This service is not suitable for:

  • Reduced fetal movements
  • Concerns about reduced movements
  • Bleeding
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Fluid loss
  • Sudden swelling, severe headaches or other concerning symptoms
  • Any pregnancy emergency

If you think something may be wrong, please contact your maternity hospital, GP, obstetrician or emergency department directly.

Reassurance scans are not a replacement for CTG monitoring, emergency assessment or medical imaging.

Why women book reassurance scans

Many pregnant women experience anxiety between appointments, particularly in the first and second trimester.

It is very common to want additional reassurance during pregnancy, especially after:

  • Previous miscarriage or pregnancy loss
  • IVF or fertility treatment
  • Long waits between appointments
  • Reduced pregnancy symptoms
  • High anxiety pregnancies

Our midwives provide compassionate, supportive care and understand the emotional side of pregnancy as well as the clinical side.
